Rhode's Barrier Restore Cream is a lightweight moisturiser designed to strengthen the skin barrier while providing immediate hydration. Its peptide-infused formula offers a dewy finish, making it suitable for all skin types.

Product innovation

The formula features a peptide complex combined with niacinamide, squalane, and shea butter. The innovation lies in the delivery system for these ingredients, which uses lamellar structure technology that mimics the skin's natural lipid organisation. This allows more efficient ingredient integration into the skin barrier. The formula also incorporates postbiotics that support the skin's microbiome.

The product focuses on the consumer awareness of skin barrier health, particularly among younger demographics experiencing barrier compromise from environmental stressors and over-exfoliation. Its competitive advantage stems from its accessible price point relative to similar products, combined with Hailey's credibility among Gen Z and Millennial consumers. The formula's lightweight texture also differentiates from existing products.

The product innovation was developed as part of Rhode's core collection, by identifying barrier health as a foundational aspect of skincare that transcends trends. The development emphasized creating a formula that would provide barrier repair while maintaining a sensorial experience aligned with Rhode's "glazed donut" aesthetic.

According to the brand 'The product underwent 16 months of development and multiple reformulations to achieve the desired balance of efficacy and texture.'

Trend

The Skin Barrier Restore Cream aligns with what Mintel termed the "barrier repair revolution," according to their 2022 Skincare Ingredients Report noting that products mentioning "barrier repair" saw a 120% increase in launches during that year.

According to NielsenIQ data, products with barrier-supporting claims showed 58% higher consumer retention rates compared to similar products without such claims.

The formulation also capitalizes on the "microbiome-friendly" trend, which Euromonitor International projected would reach $2.97 billion globally by 2024.
